Europe's first outdoor fitness and health platform

The project aims to educate citizens towards a sustainable active lifestyle. To this end, we have located, digitized and personalized existing outdoor fitness facilities to gather valuable insights on the existing outdoor fitness infrastructure in Europe and enable the scientific community to work with valid data on the physical activity of EU citizens.

Digitally record & process usage behavior at outdoor locations

40% of Europeans are already active outdoors (Eurobarometer 2022). What we don't know today, however, is how many citizens in Europe are active at designated outdoor fitness spots. With the AMOS project, we are creating a systematic overview of methods and solutions to close this knowledge gap with the help of artificial intelligence and technology. In doing so, we are setting a new standard with the aim of finally making the impact of healthy lifestyles and outdoor sports infrastructure measurable.

Digitalization and apps for integration through sport

Following the successful Erasmus+ Sport project "#Digital Active Regions Europe - Outdoor", we would like to pursue and deepen the topic. The focus of the follow-up project is on the question of how we need to expand our digital platform in order to ensure the inclusion of people with disabilities or migrants through outdoor sports.

Abstract

Does the installation of new or the improvement of existing outdoor parks increasephysical activity levels? A systematic review

Investment in outdoor parks is proposed as a promising large-scale strategy to promote physical activity (PA). This study aimed to systematically review the impact of park renovations or installing new ones in increasing PA. Searches were conducted using predefined terms in three databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) in March 2022. Studies examining the effectiveness of park renovations or developing new ones in increasing PA and having control or comparison were eligible for inclusion. The database search yielded 959 records, and 26 were included. For park renovations (n=17), 11 (65%) studies presented findings supporting a positive effect on PA, while the other six (35%) studies found no PA benefits when compared to control or pre-renovations/improvements levels. Regarding new installations (n=9), five (56%) studies presented improvements in PA, and four (44%) did not. A promising positive impact of both park renovations and new installations on park use and physical activity was observed. The review findings reflect the need to understand the context, daily routines, and interests of the surrounding population before undertaking park renovations or installing new outdoor parks.
